Pomegranate Mocktail
Summers are knocking at the door and I thought why not to include some refreshing recipes on my blog for long, warm and sometimes really hot summery days.
This Pomegranate Mocktail is one such recipe, which is just ideal to be tried for a summer evening get-together, family gatherings or just for enjoying your me-time alone.
Believe me it is not only refreshing but every bit a yummy fruity drink.
You may call this a virgin mojito recipe too as it does not contain any alcohol and thus is perfect to serve to kids too.
As the name suggests, it is made with pomegranate and hence the lovely red/ pinkish colour of this mocktail.
You need to make it at least once this summers and I bet, you are going to make it quite often then.

What is Mocktail?
Before we move to the recipe, I would like to talk a little about mocktails.
Mocktails basically means mock cocktails. Now cocktails are alcoholic drinks and hence as the name suggests mock cocktails are non-alcoholic versions of cocktails. You may also call them fake cocktails.
Mocktails are lovely non-alcholic drinks made with fresh fruits juices, herbs, spices, syrups, creams etc. They are perfect for those people who don’t enjoy alcoholic drinks or can’t have them due to their reasons. So for pregnant ladies, kids, elderly people and Teetotalers this is the perfect drink to serve.
Mocktails are generally created in the glasses in which they are served. The fruit pulp is normally crushed with a muddler in the glasses along with the lemon and mint and then other syrups and juices are added. But as everyone does not have a muddler at home so I am going to make it in the easiest and a quick way. Read on…
Pomegranate Mojito
Mojito is an essentially a drink made with rum, lime juice, mint leaves, soda water etc. Mojito when made without alcohol is called as Virgin Mojito.
Now the summer drink we made can also be casually called as Virgin Mojito as it has all the ingredients of a mojito. In fact a better name would be Pomegranate Virgin Mojito.
Some people might object to it saying that mojito does not have spices and that is right but now a days this drink has so many variations that putting an exact line to the names in some cases is difficult.
But nevertheless, we are going to enjoy this non-alcoholic drink. So choose whatever you want to call it, but do give it a try.

Important points for Pomegranate Mocktail
1.Pomegranate – For this summery, fresh drink I have taken pomegranate as the base flavor. So we will need fresh pomegranate seeds. Take full ripe and juicy pomegranate for good results. You may take canned pomegranate juice too instead of fresh pomegranate.
2.Ginger- A little hint of ginger goes great with this mocktail recipe. The peppery and spicy flavor of ginger tastes wonderful in this pomegranate virgin mojito recipe. So do not skip ginger in this recipe.
3.Lemon – Lemon juice is again an important ingredient in this pomegranate mocktail recipe. It gives the refreshing, tangy flavor to this mocktail and can not be replaced. Please do not use vinegar in place of lemon juice.
4.Black Salt – Black salt gives taste and aroma both. If you have used back salt earlier you would know that black salt has an aroma of its own and in some drinks it just smells great, and this pomegranate mocktail is one such drink. You may however use table salt instead but I highly recommend using black salt only.
5.Sprite – Sprite is a lemon flavored soft drink and gives a great taste in this mocktail recipe. You can however easily replace it in this recipe with equal amount of soda. However, if you use soda in place of sprite then you must add some sugar syrup in it.
6.Ice-cubes – Ice cubes make this drink a very chilled and perfect cool mocktail to enjoy during the summers. So add ice cubes as per your preference but do add them. You may also use crushed ice while serving the drink in the glass.

Ingredients
- Pomegranate Seeds – Medium 1/2 pomegranate
- Ginger – 1/2 inch piece
- Black Salt – As per taste
- Ice cubes – as required
- Lemon – 1/2
- Sprite – as required
- Mint leaves for decoration
- Lemon slice for decoration
Method
1.Take a medium pomegranate and use half of its seeds for this recipe. Take them in a bowl. Add roughly chopped ginger and salt as per taste. Add 4-5 ice cubes. Now blend all these in a mixer jar until nicely crushed and juicy.

2. Now keep a sieve on a bowl. Pour out this freshly blended fruit mixture on the sieve. If you find any difficulty in taking out this mixture from the mixer jar then you may add 1-2 tbsp water and then take out the mixture.

3. Strain this mixture nicely and take out all the pomegranate juice in the bowl. Use a spoon as shown in the video to take out the juice from this mixture. The amount of pomegranate juice taken out this way will be used to make 1 glass pomegranate mocktail. You may increase the quantity of the ingredients to make more glasses.

4.Take a tall glass and add 4-5 ice cubes to it. Pour in the freshly blended pomegranate juice.

5. Add in the juice of 1/2 of lemon. Pour the sprite and fill the glass. Once poured, let the fizz of the sprite settle down and then pour more sprite to fill the glass to the brim.

6. Decorate with a lemon slice and mint leaves and enjoy!
